How to prep your home like a pro...

Banish the clutter! Trim the bushes! Hide your Star Wars collection! Take down the family pictures! Sometimes a little extra prep or a few minor touchups can go a long way in attracting a potential buyer and cinching the deal. We'll help you see your home from a buyers' perspective and suggest ways to make it even more enticing at showings. Here are a few easy tips to start with: 



• Clean, clean, clean.

• Clear out the clutter

• Organize closets & kitchen cabinets

• De-personalize (let them see

  themselves living there)

• Remove things you're not going to leave

• Make minor repairs

• Maintain the lawn/exterior

• Repaint walls to neutral colors

• Let there be light/open up windows

• Add fresh flowers or plants to your space

• Remove bulky furniture that doesn't fit

• Make sure each room has a purpose

  (i.e. storage room = office!)

• Turn the bath into a spa with candles

• Close the toilet

• Bake cookies (they smell like home!)

• Make sure your curb appeal is appealing

• Make sure your front door is inviting

  with a new coat of paint

Transform a junk room into a cozy office! Voila. Now it has meaning in life. Can't afford new cabinets? No problem. Keep the old ones and just get new knobs or handles to help freshen things up.


make it bigger.

To make a room appear bigger than it is,  paint it in the same color as the adjacent  room. If you have a small kitchen and dining room, a seamless look will make both rooms feel like one big space.

let there be light.

Make sure you have 3 kinds of lightingfor every room (ambient, task and accent) to make them seem warm & inviting. Increase the bulb wattage to 100 watts for each 50 square feet, so that there is enough light.


go dark.

Don't be afraid to use dark paint in a powder room, dining room, or bedroom. A deep tone on the walls can make the space feel more intimate, dramatic, and cozy.

play musical furniture.

Just because you bought that cute chair for the living room, doesn't mean it can't help create a cozy reading corner in the bedroom!



Mixing the right accessories to make a room more inviting. When it comes to eye-pleasing accessorizing, odd numbers are preferable, especially three. Rather than lining up a trio of items in a row, imagine a  triangle and place one object at each point. Scale is important, be sure to vary width & height!
